Cruel World Poem by Sergio Savioli

Cruel World

I don't think I'll write poems any more
People don't read them or understand them

People don't even understand themselves
Let alone other people and their writings

In any case they have neither reason nor rhyme
And the rhythm is just a matter of opinion

No one will notice their absence or miss them
Even though personally I quite like reading them

So this one will have to be just for you
You unstoppable egocentric old fool

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The video on YouTube and Vimeo has the same short poem in three languages, English, Italian and German. Does it change with each language or is the message the same? Even in one language, despite its simplicity, the poem is a challenge. Is the tone sad and serious or mocking and ironic? Are the images a help or do they confound? Is the reader and listener included or excluded? What is poetry anyway and where does it come from? There's only one way to find some kind of answer to these and other questions...
