Crumbs To Reminisce Them Missed Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Crumbs To Reminisce Them Missed

We got by...
Nibbling on crumbs,
Of a leftover pie.
And had been satisfied.
Before the days of dreams,
Could be had...
With approval of credit to get.
And who determined...
We were deserving of it.

That was many years ago.
Experienced by those,
Profiled living in ghettos.
Unique?
This reality to live was not!

Today?
With debts to pay.
And interests on those...
Stacking bills.
And deepening debts.
Left to escalate a keeping up,
Of impressions to make.
Leaves many,
Pinching pennies.
And seeking more credit.
To purchase pieces of a pie.
Or at least,
A slice of that piece to savor.
Since...
No longer can anyone rely,
On the whole pie.
To realize...
Being shared by a creditor.
Adding the expense...
Of their nibbling away.
With interests to one day,
Pray for foreclosure.

Greed has no integrity!

To then...
Claim the whole pie eaten,
Had been equity to be theirs.
Added to the crumbs of pie.
And...
An unpaid lien attached.
As a reminder.
Of a deep dish crust.
With it done to reminisce...
By those,
Signing over their wishes.
With pictures added.
At their expense.
And what had been possessed.
Declaring ownership.
Of that which has,
From them seen repossessed.

'Hey, comeon!
Don't be so selfish.
It's my turn,
To reminisce that pie.
We never had but wanted.
Pass those pictures.
It's my turn to reminisce! '
