Crushed Flowers Poem by Subashini Ravichandran

Crushed Flowers

The lilac flowers that touched my door steps,
Long before even the milkman rung,
Always sent with a charming note
Coated in excess of sugar and honey

Oh! how the fragrance warmed me instantly,
Even better than the rising sun,
How my soul lept to those caring words,
And my heart danced to its sweet rhythms

To not let the sensation slip even a second,
I carried the bouquet in all places,
In my kitchen, in the bed room,
While I cleaned, in my work

To not let any other scent waft through,
And take away sole reason for existence,
I held the flowers close always
And in them everything about you

The lilacs laughed and delighted,
Made me blush with their smiles,
In them I saw you but nothing
And believed they were enough for a life time

But now that the lovely bunches
Will never again reach my door step,
My days will not once be warm again,
In spite of the ever glorious sunshine

And the crushed flowers that once
never failed to brighten the air,
are now the only memoirs of us,
And of the never plausible bliss
