Drifting Around Poem by Subashini Ravichandran

Drifting Around

drowning in an intangible ocean,
struggling hard for every breath,
suffocating the rapid beating heart,
pain radiating through every nerve

The waves hitting harder than wind,
currents pulling deeper into the water,
all the surrounding noise slowly drifting,
the coldness of water reaching every cell

Will I ever reach the inviting shores,
swim through the impossible tides,
inhale a cool breath of fresh air,
feel the solid ground again beneath

Or could this just be a vivid dream,
where I wake up to the obvious reality,
to the sun shining through the window,
and warm rays piercing deep into the skin.
