Damn Love

Damn love.

I loved a girl once.
We walked through trees in spring
We sat side by side in bright sun
We talked by silver streams
We lay together, exhausted in moon light

I loved a woman once
We faced life together, always strong
When despair called her name, I was always there
We faced doubt together, for we had each other
When sadness overtook me, her arms were always open

I love her still
I stare at her picture, remembering those trees
I hold the ring I gave her, the one she gave back to me
I relive every detail, clinging to her shade
When sadness overtakes me, only darkness’s arms are there
