Dangle

In search of the word
for the quote of another author
that an author prefixes to the text of a novel,
the poet rejects the temptation
to turn 'pretext' into a multi-murderer*.

He is in two minds about 'pre-text'
and unsure re 'prefix' and 'prefixture'.

He realizes the quote is a dangler;
it dangles off the beginning.

He abandons his search for the word.

With Shakespearean non-fearing
he makes multi-murderers*
of both 'dangle'
and 'earring'.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
* see my poem 'Multi-murderer'. It's a word that means more than one thing. I don't want 'pretext' to be a multi-murderer but am quite happy for 'dangle' and 'earring' to branch out.
