Dare I Hope? Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Dare I Hope?

Rating: 5.0

The wonderful sensation of the sun’s warmth brings
A morning that welcomes with a gesture of kindness
No need for gloves today; dare I think of spring…
Sunglasses are necessary to soften rays of blindness

Two hours pass and clouds are dimming my view
A tepid dampness is predicting more precipitation
The snow is melting; puddles are beginning to accrue
On coming cars speed, spraying my car with frustration

The rain lightly sprinkles on my hopeful notions
As I run my errands and stand waiting in long lines
Home again, duties call as I go through the motions
Temperatures fall downward as dreariness undermines

Nightfall is putting the lid on the slow fading flow
Soft halos encircle street lamps of glowing glass
Disbelief fills my sight with flurries of snow
Blanketing the optimistic green blades of grass

As my befuddled mind rest on a pillow of discontent
I realize that sweet Mother Nature is such a tease
Giving a glimpse of delight… then swiftly it is spent
Drifting to slumber… I know that soon she will please
