Daughter - 7 Years Old Poem by Sadaf Aslam

Daughter - 7 Years Old

A button nose, ten ticklish toes
Eyes search my face for what, heaven knows
I've held you close, so very close
I've looked at you that way

But, now you run, jump and skip
Sunglasses at night, oh so hip
Saleena's songs on your lips
And, I look at you that way

Fingers that used to hold on tight
Peek-a-boo! ! ! Such delight
Lullabies whispered every night
I've looked at you that way.

But now you can do everything
Loom rainbows into pretty rings
Crawls to bikes in just a blink
And, I look at you that way

Mama, why the moon chases me?
I can't see HIM, can you see?
Can the ladybug sleep with me?
I've looked at you that way.

Seven candles on your cake
Secret wishes I watch you make
Slow down a bit, for goodness sake
And, I look at you that way

Soon you'll ask for my car keys
College forms and tuition fees
Dreams to catch, "O Mommy, please"
And, I will look at you that way

I won't be there to break your falls
I won't be there to bring down walls
Silver memories I'll recall
I'll always look at you that way
