Daughter - 9 Years Old Poem by Sadaf Aslam

Daughter - 9 Years Old

You came to me, in a funny way
A cold and cloudy, sunny day
Hands and feet, tucked away
What a blessing! I quietly say

You filled my home, new song and sound
You filled my heart, a love unbound
Hopes and dreams, that had fallen asleep
You woke them up, all around

Hungry hippos, and hoola hoops
Quaker crunch, and fruity loops
Crazy morns, and lazy noons
Robert Munch, and Dr. Suess

Lego mansions, reds and blues
Making crafts with glittery glues
ABC's and two plus twos
Good night hugs and 'I love you's

Pockets full of lucky stones
Drawers full of friendly loans
Pink and purple coloured dreams
Wishes made, and lashes blown

Why do eyebrows even exist?
What turns water into mist?
One more chapter, you insist
My careful, curious scientist

Saffron and cinnamon
Growing mint in the sun
'Bailing rotis' one by one
Heaps of love, loads of fun

Your hands are soft and warm to hold
Your hair luscious silky folds
My true pride, but of course
Your heart of pure precious gold

You are my shawl on a wintery night
You are the friend by my side
You are the pink in my cherry trees
You are my ocean and my ocean breeze

Today, you stand shoulder tall
Your laugh a gorgeous waterfall
My living, breathing, dancing doll
My love, my joy, my all and all
