Days Poem by Joe Rewainy

Days

Day one, I looked up and caught her eyes
and there she stood with her lips apart
I couldn’t help but hold that stare
and feel the warmth in me all but spare

Day two, as sleep evades me this night
her image all but leaves my mind
I dreamed awake of her with fright
that my heart will never feel her sight

Day three, walking down the street
I thought i caught a glimpse of my dream
But quickly passed away in a fleet
left me standing holding my tears in a stream

Love it’s been so long yet you still elude
my soul and deny me the pleasure you seclude
Love how many appeals would it take from me
to bring you knocking on my doors and speak

Day four, and this time the sight is real
and my breathe slips away as my heart reels
From my dream there’s a truth I can feel
as I hold her hand in mine and her eyes smile

Day five, sitting across her pretty face
her brown skin shines in the morning glaze
As we sip our coffees and a breeze caress
her hair flowing with divine finess

I’ve always thought love was lost on me
that for no soul alive my heart would leap
What miracle I was blessed with to grasp
this feeling I eternally revere and clasp

For if I could hear the heavens speak
No doubt I’d be eternally freed
A rose planted in my heart grows
with every day passing by glows
