Nirvana Poem by Joe Rewainy

Nirvana

I sat on a rocket shell and took a cigarette lit,
taking in what doom man could shamelessly spit
One mile away a building started to tumble,
and all the words in my throat fumbled…

In the shade of the smoke I blew out I saw,
a young girl treading through the wreckage of stone
Without looking aside she came and sat beside,
and let go the doll she had held astride…

I felt the hands of her on my arms
as she looked to me with her pretty young eyes…
No words came out of her throat as I smiled,
and her eyes shed not a tear, but cried

Looking into those eyes I couldn’t help but see,
what mickles of pain that young girl did bleed
And the seed of hate had been sown in place
of a heart, way before reason or fate

A chill ran down my spine, as she lifted her hand to my eyes
shielding them from the sight, of the blood-spilling flies

“They took all my kin they did, those horrible creatures they did.
They ran them down with Hadean rays,
bringing down the home, which I thought would forever stay…”

A single tear tore down my face,
but in her palm she caught in grace

“Waste not your tears to water this land,
for it’s a land of spite and forever is damned…”

For long I stared at this forlorn soul,
and hoped for my life to keep her insight
For if a smile wasn’t drawn across that sinless face,
we shall forever be cursed, and love will not know place

“Fear not dear child what your eyes have found this day,
for there exists a place where life is lived in grace,
and no pain is seen and no blood is drained
To you I promise that for all your age
you will joy and saltate …”

Her palms found mine, and in her eyes I read,
If a place such as this exists, take me or leave me dead…

“Leave you and I shall never live to be…
But to a deed we must first see,
Sow your seed in the land of the dead,
for the future must remember, what the past had dismembered…”

Leaving all the wreckage behind,
we strolled in hand, side by side
To a land where the roses blossomed,
without fear of being torn, to the ground and scorned
