Dead Meadow Poem by John Leroy Maxwell

Dead Meadow

I searched the vast expanse of lea,
with stones etched, in memory of another day
When peace not found, and conflict real,
before destiny's door in doom did seal
Trampled flora, an untended site, vague
recollections thru shadowy light
Scattered parcels, or plots if you may,
sanguinary remnants of a fearful day
The rains did fall, and ne'er to wane,
and winds of terror blew again
I saw it all with mirthless rue
Dead Meadows scene, a view askew
