Deadly Cancer - Poem by Hasmukh Amathalal

It was diagnosed as deadly cancer
A disease now common but found with fewer
So much progress has been made in this direction
But patients suffer mental agony with medicine's reaction

Mother was not feeling well since many days
She may remain busy whole day and calmly stay
She knew very well that she is up with disease
But disclosed to me that it should not be made known please

I was elder among in the family and realized the importance
There was no hope at all and she was awaited with bleak chance
I knew she may remain with us for few more days or months
Then may be suddenly taken over by cruel death

Females generally suffer more with such kind diseases
The moment they marry their existence suddenly ceases
They are not only overpowered by lots of responsibility at home
But countered with numerous problems to tackle and welcome

I could clearly see worry lines on her face
But she won't allow any body to find trace
She will be smiling all the time and remain cheerful
As if life was defeat4d and she remained successful

Such was her dominating character
Sometimes she will make us to roar in laughter
Forgetting all the pains caused by incurable disease
She used to say 'Life must be spent always at ease'

I will direct look at her eyes and try to find out
Why she is always trying to be normal and talk about?
She was funny too and played with small kids
Never failed in her duty for providing the clear lead

She breathed her last with complete control
There was panic or any distress call
She called everybody near by her bed
Bade farewell and told some one for hymns to be heard

She closed her eyes very slowly
Face with beautiful smile and happily
She was not defeated till the last
As the end came peacefully but very fast

    Nightowl
cancer is no respecter of persons. Have already lost family to it. It'll attack the child as well as the adult without a moments pause. Strong write on a dark subject.
