Dear Friend Poem by Brayden R. Kennedy

Dear Friend

When was the last time you went outside?
When was the last time you saw your friends,
Your family?
When was the last time you called them
Just so they knew you cared?
My dear friend
I understand the tribulations you are going through
For they are my own.
O, my friend
I know of the pain loneliness inflicts on the soul.
The monster it creates.
A black blob with cold, soulless eyes.
'You and I are one'
The beast claims.
Lies! Dear friend, those are lies!
I know this because the beast has told me the same lies.
Yet, the beast has power.
With each passing day
That power grows.
With each failed attempt at connection,
That power grows exponentially.
Dear friend, the power of the beast is suffocating.
He hovers around in the dead of night.
His presence is unmistakable.
O friend, the pain his presence brings!
Your heart bursts with agony and sadness.
The beast causes you great envy.
An envy of everyone happy around you.
O, how terrible of an envy!
The beast knows he has a hold on you.
But my dear friend
We can prevail.
The beast may have the power of
Lucifer himself.
But we have each other.
Dear friend, we shall prevail!
Separate, we are weak
But together, we are strong.
The beast has no chance,
We will vanquish this terrible demon.
Dear friend, I will not let you down.
May God have mercy on our ragged souls.
