Dear Future Husband, Poem by Denis Martindale

Is he the one? Is he the one? Or is he someone else?
Who knows when true love has begun that leads to wedding bells?
Who knows which one will take my hand upon some fateful day?
Who knows when everything gets planned, then Dad gives me away?

Without God's guidance, what am I? What wisdom comes to mind?
Will insights come in fresh supply through Scriptures I must find?
Or is my future purely chance, as if based on a whim?
Like on some holiday romance, it could be him, or him?

I must confess, I pause to pray, like spinsters often do,
Before it's time when I must say, Hey, handsome! I love you!
Before I know I've met my match! My soulmate! Oh, so strong!
I pray to God, he's up to scratch! Or else, bye-bye! So long!
