Dear Grandad, Poem by Ellie Sutton

Dear Grandad,

Dear Grandad, this hurdle's the last,
A curtain call for all that's passed,
Despite this shroud,
You've done us proud,
Head held high while the die are cast.

And bruised your body may well be,
Your strength is there for all to see,
So a promise to break my own chains and live as you'd want me to,
Is my parting gift from me to you.

'Cause I'm scared how you'll remember me,
In your eternal memory,
So I'll make a change,
I'll rearrange,
This twisted mind, all strength misplaced.

I'll forget the world that I knew,
But I swear I won't forget you,
I promise upon every breath I breathe, I will remove my shroud;
Dear Grandad, I will make you proud.
