Dear Heaven... Poem by Amanda Swindahl

Dear Heaven...

Dear heaven, you can wait. If ever I could fall like the rain, pour down with grace, and find a way to let loose, dilute these wounds, and flood these scars. Dear heaven you can wait, If ever I could find a way to mute the thunder, and pause that moment where it all came crashing down. If ever I could silence the smoke, that awful smell I woke to. If ever I could see through the cracks, the shattered glass that webbed my shield. The pride in the armor I thought I would never fail. If ever I could stop these nightmares, I see it all stuck on replay. If ever the clouds could be my skin, translucent, unharmed pure and without bandages. If ever I could fight these fears.
I will look out through my window and watch it rain, its free to move, it knows nothing of pain as it crashes down, and thunder comes chasing after. The smashing voices roar, an accident with close call, but through it all I have a chance to live just a little bit more, love all I still do have, and those that stood by my side. If ever I forget how there was an angel by my side, If ever I should need reminding, Before that moment my last words would have been 'I love you all', I will not let my life be shaded in jeopardy again, I may have almost lost it all, But I will not lose myself. I will pour down with grace, and find a way to let loose, dilute these wounds, and flood these scars.
Dear heaven, thank you for waiting.
