Death Poem by Rose Garden

Death

Rating: 5.0

He gasped with desperation
for air, but no despair there,
nothing more can be done or said.
more an automatic response,
Going through the motion of dying,
lying in that hospital bed
Doctors, Nurses no longer trying
to prolong your life
more ease your passage through.
And I sit there with you,
telling you I love you.
Your skin is pale and cold,
I search my mind for things untold,
desperate to tell you everything I ever thought.
I see you slow down and that frown
etched on your face softens.
as you slip further down.
Your finger turn blue, your nose too
your breathing stops and starts
but still the strength persists in your heart.
Eventually it becomes clear,
that your death is imminently near,
I hold your hand and say
"go, go and find your promised land
I understand that you cannot stay
and I will see you again one day"
Your breaths become slower your chest rises ever lower
and then you stop and I flop on your chest
and sob.
You deserve your rest but I fell robbed
of someone significant in my life.
The pain it cuts me like a knife.
Sleep well my dear
stay near.

A sorrowful tale of loved one's exit into eternity expertly narrated in a brilliant poem. A well texted and nicely thought-out piece. You're very talented. Thanks for sharing
