Death, Consequence? Poem by Rachel Brewer

Death, Consequence?

Is death a consequence to us? Really?
I mean, when we die, that’s it. Nothing.
Everything is gone and we don’t realise.
So personally, I don’t feel death would be a consequence.
We don’t know, we’re dead!
Sure, we may acknowledge that we’re dying,
But we will not realise the moments after death.
However, death is a consequence to everybody else.
Our death will be there consequence.
They will feel the pain and the loss, not us.
They will live the rest of their lives missing us and yearning for us.
So don’t tell me you’re scared of dying.
There’s nothing to be scared of.
No realisation, no suffering.
Don’t be scared of yourself dying,
Be scared for all the people you are leaving behind.
Because death isn’t our burden to bear,
It’s everyone else’s.
