Deception Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Deception

Rating: 5.0

The aloe vera gum
tells a story of denial
of a baby of her coveted food
by her most trusted caregiver
her mother!
Here starts the grand story
of deception!

(Aloe vera gum {called Chenninayakam ചെന്നിനായകം in Malayalam} is used all over the world to wean babies off breast feeding. The gum, which is offensively bitter, is smeared on the breast while feeding to dissuade babies from sucking.)

Evelyn Judy Buehler 12 January 2025 "Poignant and thought provoking. It makes me sad just to think of a baby being deceived in this way. Human beings could learn a lot from animals." True, Evelyn. The child's distrust of the whole world starts here!

A child faces this deception at a very early stage of her life… and she understands it sooner or later..
