Decision Poem by Sam Smith

Decision

Yesterday I was told by a friend to answer a question,
This question didn’t make me think of me but we.
It took me by surprise and I stood in hesitation.
She told me to tell her if she was someone special to me?

I admit I am a man of a few words,
And when I have to speak of my feelings;
My mind turns my mouth in to closed doors,
Gates that hide the most concealed things.

So to answer your question I will do what I fear,
I will give you what you want.
To steal your souls tear,
And give you the elixir of your want.

So ill find the gate keeper and tell him to show you my key,
I´ll give you the chance to peek at what I can´t see.
To hear the voice that has no sound,
To listen to what only deaf hears can understand.

Know hear what you’re about to read,
I need you to know that there is something I need.
The only thing I truly want indeed,
It is to find someone to be loved by me.

The person how can teach me how to trust,
To show me the error of my ways;
To make me do what I must,
The person that will guide me throw the rest of my days.

The one that will give me the strength I lack,
The one that will save my soul from the black;
The one that will destroy what I most fear,
The one that will make my emotions appear.

Yes this is what I have decided,
Know it is all up to fate.
To see if my love is not misguided,
For it I sure cannot wait.

Your poem really made me think. It seems to be derived from an immature view of young love - it's naive, and wants to be loved, yet is in the confines of selfishness. Wanting someone to do all these things for you, but love gives of itself to another. In the beginning It claims to think of we, but goes on to describe me. It's a very interesting take on innocence and I do like this poem. Keep writing and sharing, and we poets will be able to see your growth as you think and mature towards real love. Look forward to more poetry from you. Thank you for sharing. This poem discribes the way most people start out in love as they look for someone to take care of them. RoseAnn

No one can teach trust, it must be earned. There is no one to show you the error of your ways, because you will not listen, thinking you know better than another what you should be doing. If you find someone to love, they will not be able to give you strength, or save your soul from black. They'll not be able to destroy what you most fear or make your emotions appear. All this is up to you to do, it must come from within, because no one has that kind of power over another. If you love someone enough on your own, you will find a way to conquer all your fears and save your soul from black. A strength will come as you fight your demons and emotions will appear that you must experience. Having done all this on your own, your love will not be misguided, because you will have matured and grown through the fight, having found someone to be loved by you. Neediness scares people away, a woman wants a man who can stand on his own, yet be gentle and kind enough to be with her in love. It's difficult to find this ideal when you, yourself, need to be mothered by someone's love to mature. To be truly in love you must first find your own way alone. Afterwards you will be able to walk alongside a woman as her equal and spend a lifetime loving one another through the years.
