Democracy Poem by Kinyua Karanja

Democracy

Rating: 4.5

They would call it our civil duty
Our constitutional right, some say
We vote and voice out our choices
We do receive threats from foes
That choices have consequences
But not enough to deter our unity
Our one goal for self determination.

Early in the morning cold and dew
We endure midday sub Saharan sun
Scorching and roasting our heads
In the queues we go strong till dusk
Still some fail to see our graveness
The long lone journey we have made
The stride we dared to try as a nation
All in name of democracy and freedom.

Whether we vote with fear and favor
Vote right or wrong people in and out
The sovereign remains with the people
Respect must be accorded to their wish
For any individual or a group of people
Being rude to persons elected so fairly
Not only show impertinent to democracy
But also to the sovereignity of the people
Such individuals must suffer fate of law.
