'Demonstrations R Us' Poem by Bryan Taplits

'Demonstrations R Us'

The crowd's arrived! Get out the way!
Don't know whether to move on or
-in support-should I to stay?
The placards held so high-that the clouds are near blocked,
I view all their signs-
and with certitudes all so convincing I'm sure they all rock.
I cheer and scream, along with the rest,
For we're all doing 'youth's promise'; we're all trying our best!
And then I am jostled, I glare at the cur,
Can't tell if it's a him- or if it's a her.
I peek and then grin in 'kumbayah' harmony-
Because I've a 50% chance that it might be a she.
But the ruckus proves too great to remain with my plans-
I'm shoved-and I am pushed to the ground-landing on my 'objective elan'.
I try to rise on this occasion, to applaud all this truck-
But am knocked down again…. And no more can get up.
Although I can now raise no more signs or banners in boast-
This should make it easy to rise- but I am now trampled to toast.
And all my new friends-
Who shriek in superior and fraternal fizzed glee
Head on towards Glory- and all without me!
