Dereliction Poem by Bryan Taplits

Dereliction

When I was young, a foolish soul
I thought the grown up life was great,
No worries then-never without a friend-
A movie that must perpetually play.
In my teenage years I couldn't wait
To assume my adult demeanor,
I told myself-at my birthday twelve-
I'd grow to be a magnificent leader.
And now that I'm grown (and still alone)
-I can only look to my downward slide,
The years that have come
and now then they are gone
It seems I've come to the end of my ride.
Yes, sovereignty I did indeed have-
so much that my journey all raved.
What I couldn't apply
was that more salubrious salve-
On the choices I foolishly made.
