Descente En Enfer. (Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Descente En Enfer. (Translation) .

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
It is appropriate to consider this poem just after Easter Sunday, when Christ rose from death in the tomb Jesus had been in the tomb since Friday evening. In Graves's poem, Christ treated Hell with contempt and rose again on the Sabbath-a day of rest-but no one rose with Him. The dead stayed in the grave. Unexpectedly, Christ's Resurrection dismayed his followers, even the most ardent ones.
