Desert Poem by rich soos

Desert

daybreak

the cactus calls shadows
for rodents to hide from flames on
the horizon, a silent blaze quieting
intrinsic voices and ghosts

noon

peyote prays life for life
and lives on rodent sweat

twilight

afire the sun signals
blood to darken the skies
painting red the time/space
between day/night

epilogue

dance with dead
midnight spirits
