Desert Poem #1 Poem by Juan Olivarez

Desert Poem #1

The sun comes up over the mountains,
And shines brightly on the sand.
The morning opens its silky curtains,
To the vast and arid land.

The ravens take to wing again,
The coyotes retreat to the far off hills.
The cold desert night begins to wane,
Sunshine calling on my window sill.

Off to the purple mountains high,
I follow the desert trail.
Off to where the ravens choose to fly,
A clear blue sky, where no clouds sail.

In the early morning the desert's cool,
The Gambel Quail scurry away.
To find some moisture in a desert pool,
Another glorious Mojave day.
