Desire Dissolving Downward Poem by Andy Brookes

Desire Dissolving Downward

Rating: 5.0

your smile dissolved in the rain
split into atoms of delight, to rearrange in my brain.
your eyes said goodbye while your mouth, a moue of red,
said hello blowing a salty kiss on the air.

I suppose when the darkness comes, as surely it will,
those little atoms of ephemeral light and atomised saline air
will reform into that smile again, searing itself into grey matter.
loves brand remaining forever.

so I said goodbye but meant hello but you had gone.
all you left me was your smile and violet eyes,
the rest, if I took it in, escaped me,
except maybe the clicking of your heels,
as you left, on asphalt, an echoed reverberation.

you said goodbye with an endearing starry smile,
which really meant a farewell, a soft sad ending.

To say goodbye so sweetly is a delight. Well penned, dear Andy.
