Desperation Poem by E.A Akonnor

Desperation

Rating: 5.0

And now you've brought me to my knees,
Like you promised me you would.
My mind is no more at peace;
I've stretched my arms out wide
And I'm screaming.
I know you can hear me
But why have you turned your eyes away from me?

I look far wretched than the poor beggar on the street,
who winced at me when I gave just a cedi.
I expected a blessing for my deed;
And yet it seems you'd rather have me reel.

Inspirational books do me no good,
I end up blaming myself like I'm a wasted youth,
But my journey has not ended yet,
And I do not wish to give up;
I'll ante up
I'll prostrate myself before you
even when I cannot see you.

I'm in desperation
And on the road to utter bestiality;
Lift me up again, Mighty One,
And watch me serve you for the rest of my life.
