Diamonds Poem by Daya Nandan

Diamonds

Natural diamonds were formed 1 billion to 3.3 billion years ago,
At 140-190 kilometres in depth within the earth's mantle below,
There, the intense heat and pressure forced carbon atoms into a tetrahedral structure,
This formed the common diamonds that are valued in almost every culture,

Soon deep volcanic eruptions blasted them up at about 40km / hour to the earth's surface,
Which cooled and hid them in lamprolites and kimberlite rocks, their special hiding place,
Some diamonds are formed within Primitive interstellar meteorites from outer space,
Thanks to the building blocks and the interstellar environment making diamond formation take place,

Diamonds can now be synthesised in laboratories
using methods like chemical vapour deposition, ultrasound cavitation and more,
Diamonds are more than the gems that symbolise wealth and glory,
For each diamond formed comes together with its own story,
