Discovering America (Reply Poem: America By Maya Angelou)

So many treasures of this nation
have been lost and will never be found

There is no justice kept at the borders
for they are more than lines on the ground

The abundance you speak of is wasted
and so many people will still go unfed

This nation ignores the homeless and sick
and so many of them are left for dead

We now feel ashamed of who we are
for there is no longer that sense of pride

The rich and elite control all the power
and for this reason, justice is always denied

The history and founding of our nation
is unpopular with the masses so it's being erased

Our ancestors who once stood proud
are now being dishonored and disgraced

The people with money have the power
and they are controlled by a select few

The future of our nation is looking bleak
but nobody wants to admit that it's true.
