Disintegration Of Middle Class Poem by Je'free Y .

Disintegration Of Middle Class

The settlers on this land,
With no right, title nor permission,
All have occupied the abandoned
Spaces within my reach
To share the sweltering heat,
The scent of canals, of the wet market,
And the indistinct, uncontrollable noises.

The members of this two-storey house,
In dire need of attention for survival,
All have shared space with me too
That we may participate in arguments
On alcohol, on dominance, on disobedience;
And that I may wonder about
The opposite, affluent life of children
Of a corrupt and hated President.

Maybe, definitely, we were luckier than others
For being able to eat three times a day;
And mastering by heart -
No Hard Work, No Reward.

Despite the rule of a dishonest government,
One can still master honesty,
And give education great regard,
Even value the virtues of thriftiness,
Of frugality, of practicality.
