Dissonant Counterbalance

The dawning of the shortest day brought forth the shadow girl
into a shadowed world. She’s clothed in midnight hues
and yet she bides in light, looks forward for her Knight.
Light from night, rough from smooth - she moves away,
takes her chances with the day.

On Summer Solstice he first took a glance upon our world’s great dance.
His longest day - but darkest night-time of the soul enfolds his heart.
Blue as sky his garbs, barbs of spiteful words bounce from celestial robes.
Summer’s Yang to her Winter’s Yin, yet balanced whole to fit within.
The wounded heals the healer and she has found her destiny.

Her longest night, his longest day, she dreams that love can find a way.
She loving witch and Brute Adonis he, counterbalanced perfectly.
His strength - resolve and muscled might; hers endurance in her plight.
Sometimes lost within the maze of dead-end turns and choices made
and yet, equanimous the centre stands to those who reach it holding hands.

(June 2009 & Minor Edits)

Dedicated to two lost souls, both Solstice babies who found each other temporarily.

A very interesting piece. The rather irregular rhyme pattern works well here, and the internal rhymes in the first stanza(knight/light/night) , assonance (she bides in light) and alliteration (shortest day/shadow girl) are good. The contrast between winter/summer, night/day forming a Yin/Yang balance is well done. It repays re-reading.
