While you have eyes and locks that are tender black
cheeks that shame the morning's break,
and lips that might for redness make
roses seem pale beside their wake!

But whether soft or sweet are they
my love alas! I cannot definitely say
since they are created only for delight
Lady! they are not lovely quite.

Like an inclusion that mars a jewel,
an angel's face loses its grace
if prudery is in her ways
and her heart be cruel and does not sway!

For love is like a sweet and blooming boy
yet glowing with the blush of joy
still in youth's delicious prime
though aged with world's ways of time!

As beauty will not stay as young and fresh
waiting for prudery to regress
before it withers and world despises
Lady! do all that Love advises!
