Do Not Pander To Me Your Poems.

Do not pander to me your poems.
Do not solicit my attention.
Do not send me formulaic messages.
Do not ask for my votes, comments, and time.
Do not ask me to read the same poem over and over again.
Do not send me messages with misspellings and bad grammar,
(Your art is language for crying out loud!) .
I love you poetry, I dig your thoughts,
I love your alliterations, your pentamic musings.
This pandering is beneath you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this after receiving the same message from a certain individual multiple times asking me to read their poem, vote, and comment. The first time we conversed, I did just that, but became irritated when they sent me the same message asking me to do exactly what I had just done. I love the community on this site, but I do not like the way that some beg for attention. Let your poem speak for itself.

My brother, who was only briefly on the site, told me he got a really blatant message from someone saying that as he'd given my brother a ten, why didn't my brother repay him likewise. I won't name this person but I bet my friends Mike and Kelly know who I mean! I usually follow Mike's method. After a while you get to know the ones you can trust. good point and well done. Tom

I get some messages from time to time asking if I'll read so and so's poem. It can grow off putting if it's overdone. For the most part I do a lot of my reading recipricoly. If someone reads one of mine I'll check out a few of theirs. It's a little silly because in the same time it took somebody to send me a message asking if I'll read their poems, they could have read one of mine and accomplished the same thing without appearing to be pandering. Good piece Jeff

I know your frustration. Conversely, I know the frustration of pouring your heart into a piece (or many) and not having anyone read it. Some people here are, however, professional panderers and will only have a chance at learning it doesn't work, if you ignore them.
