Do Not Understand Poem by Francis Duggan

Do Not Understand

Rating: 5.0

When people do talk of land ownership I feel they do not understand
That we cannot own what does own us since we does belong to the land
You may have a paper deed for your property which is proof of ownership by human law
But your property and the land it does stand on you cannot take with you when your last breath of life you will draw
The land grows the food that does feed us and supplies us with our every need
The land as Mother Earth's garden every form of life does feed
This earth we live on and belong to we have to return to one day
And our property we cannot take with us despite what the deed to it does say
The deed to your property you may will to others but for them like you it will be the same
The land that they say belong to them only belong to them in name
They too will die like those before them and the clock of time ever ticks on
But the land they claim ownership to will not be theirs when life's breath from them has gone
It can be said of those who brag of land ownership that their words will surely prove them wrong
For we cannot own what we belong to and to the land we does belong.
