Don't Bug Me! Poem by Christine Gries

Don't Bug Me!

Rating: 4.5

Richard brings home a worm for me
And says a monarch it will be
He is attached to a milkweed leaf
And soon he will weave his sheath

I stare at the fuzzy beast
Munching on his Milkweed feast
But I have my doubt
about which butterfly will come out

So, onto Google I did go
And searched insect pages high and low
This fuzzy Imposter a monarch no
but a tiger moth he will grow

They Winter over in their cocoon you see
So, then I knew he had to be free
So off I went to set him on
A large Milkweed plant frond

His neighbors where others just like him
With a few daddy longlegs thrown in
So now he sits happily with this crowd
All of them munching out loud

Over Winter he will turn
Into a tiger moth this fuzzy worm
But Rich and I both learned you see
The lonely milkweed hosts many species!
