Dooglebug Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Dooglebug

Rating: 5.0

Hitler's terror weapon in World War Two, V1 flying
bomb, range 150 miles, speed 350 mph.9,521 launched
against Britain.
.
Pilotless
Engine sounding like a tractor
Flying above white cliffs of Dover
Heading for London until fuel runs out.
Falling silently to the ground
Exploding house into rubble
Burying living and the dead.

People cower in Anderson shelters
Hear distant buzzing sound
Knowing a doodlebug is coming
Fearful when roaring engine stops.
Terrified mothers hug children
Praying bomb falls elsewhere.
