Double Edged Sword Poem by Joshua Mccoy

Double Edged Sword

A master of two swords was out slaying monsters and after swiping dragon blood off of one sword with a sharp swipe at the air, held one up to the sky and reflected the sun with its pure blade.
And let the other, dropp from his hand
Into the darkest shadows.

John was not always the wielder of two swords, his first beloved sword expressed his abilities and relived him of his suppressed emotions and determination but their time together was abruptly cut short and both took a year’s worth of absence from each other.
Over time, seasons came and emotions faded as the leaves changed from green to burnt popcorn. John was walking past a run down pawn shop when he saw a beautiful abandoned sword sitting in the window grabbing at the world for attention and love but ignored by those oblivious to its true majestic value. With honest intentions, he picked her up and used her like never before.
They became inseparable. The sword fulfilled his every desire, even those he never knew existed, and over time their ever growing love attracted the jealousy of one not soon to be forgotten…
Out training with his new sword one day, a giant ogre appeared out of the forest that outlined his home and attacked with a stretched arm full of spikes. He swung his sword wildly at the air to strike the monster but missed every time. At that moment in desperation, he reached for his old compaignon covered with a thin layer of dust and blasted the monster high into the air with an orb of light using both swords.
It was then that he discovered his life would remain in a constant state of bliss and happiness only if he wielded two swords instead of one.
Not only did they bring him prosperity and completed a half of his soul the other could not fulfill, but they resonated hatred towards each other and glowed an angry green glow of jealousy and power when used together.
Day by day with nights of restless sleep
The sword from his past
Became to represent darkness in lust,
The sword from his present
Became to represent light and pure love

To gain experience in fighting with each without awkwardly holding both at the same time,
John plunged his soul into the light during the day
And confided his soul within darkness during the night.
