Doubtful Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

Doubtful

A step forward, then a pause.
The ground feels unsteady,
though it has never moved before.

The wind whispers, but is it calling
or simply passing by?
The stars flicker-signals or accidents?

Each thought folds into itself,
a paper crane with broken wings,
too fragile to fly, too restless to be still.

The night does not answer.
The day does not explain.
And so, I wait,
caught between belief and retreat.
