Down The Mountain Poem by Linda Engwall

Down The Mountain

Waking up to the thought
that I have already walked up one side of the mountain
Now on the journey heading down the other side
Not sad, or morbid, or even regretful
Just aware, awaken to the inevitable

When we are young the days seem endless
As it should be, the mind is free
To dream, to play, to explore, to wonder
Where our life will take us

Now the days fly by
Months turn into years
Children grow up
Life pulls you into a new direction

Every age has its gifts
This mid life becomes
One of more clarity
No longer wasting
so much energy
Or time on worrying
Knowing who you are
What you stand for

Finally understanding what has always been the most important
Love for yourself, for your family and ultimately for mankind
