Durban Road Bellville Poem by Gert Strydom

Durban Road Bellville

(in answer to Pirow Bekker)

From above, from the fourteenth flour
you can at night look at the lights of the city
or even hide a very small dog in the apartment
and hear doves coo that do scatter the washing

and in the Cape winter we will be intense and intimate,
will be cosily organised against the winter-rain
only you and me and a small dog, later maybe a child
and you will like it my darling, the city is always busy.
