An eastern box turtle, I do
Prefer land over water, yes,
Here at home in Lincoln Park Zoo,
Ambassador at this address.
In the eastern U.S. of A.
Is where my kind in wild be found,
Slow and steady making their way
Over mostly moist forest ground.
The 'box' part of our name's about
The dome shaped hinged shell that we wear,
Colored in camouflage no doubt
So threats may not know that we're there.
So when you come to visit me,
If I'm seen then you got lucky.
