Easy-Going Youth Of Today Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Being old I'm in the myth still.
When I advised my grown-up students
not to fall in love with the girls
either at the first sight
or at the second sight
for their hearts would break
if the girls cheated them,
they at once would retort:
' If the heart breaks, we will replace it
with an artificial heart
or transplantation we'll undergo.
Human organs are changed nowadays
as ICs and electronic components'.

' You are weak in physique.
You can't bear the shock
of a devastating defeat in love',
I waxed in eloquence.Having no second thought,
' Sir, we're not tearful and brooding,
as that of conscience-stricken lovers of the past.
We're boy friends to girls; that's all.
We have no time to write an epic
to adore the sanctity of chastity.
In a crisp haiku, we'll regret and revive'.
The boys these days are smart
and better than we, the melancholy-eaten fools.

The girls are very disciplined.
They walk with their eyes looking down.
When I taught the basics of Algebra,
the boys would look at the girls,
but the girls feigned listening to me.
They would watch in stealth,
the SMS received in the neighbour's cell-phone.
The European dress codes appeal to them
than the decent head to foot covering dresses.
