Echoes Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Echoes

Down Amsterdam canals
we pedal-boat
feet flailing furiously madly in love

under bridges
and the sunlight
of this soft summer evening.
The bridges
capture our laughter

sunlight and water
reflect our love.
I stand and shout:
'I love you Laura Barnes! '
('...love...Laura...')

You stand and shout:
'I love you Donall Dempsey! '
('...love...Donall...')

Our voices
meet & merge
overlapping & then
becoming one

echoing down
all that evening
all the years.

This is so lovely to read and imagine. The images of two people on the river bring it such a romantic feel. (But then all you write is romantic so I wouldn't expect anything else!) HG: -) xx
