Eglantine Poem by Alix Mangerian

Eglantine

Perhaps I should have looked closer
when you told me you loved marigolds.
I should have seen it coming.
We sat on vernal grass
and you told me you prefer
carnations to roses.
I planted deep pink roses
in the front yard
just the same,
and you just smiled,
stirring orange blossom honey
into your tea.
