It came back yesterday, the dream that’s real;
Though sleeping dreamless, waiting for the dawn,
It woke my thoughts, a sinking, last appeal
Rejected. Face the music, mourn.

Is this the Electra of the House Atreus, the fundamental dysfunctional ancient Greek family? If so I can see why the poem is so agitated, self-contradictory and presents such a conflicted speaker. But if it's not that archetypal Electra from the distant past, it is one of her spiritual sister who has inherited that life vexed by competing claims none of which is likely to bring self fulfillment. I hope this young woman will break out of that pattern of FATE and declare her own path to fulfillment.
