Entanglement Poem by Mark Heathcote

Entanglement

My mind is an entanglement of joy and sorrow.
That self-esteem trips over,
where ego is tempered with a backlist of personal disasters
and a panic room filled with anxious regret.
Every step is taken with some trepidation;
a trapdoor will open and throw me into the lion's mouth
to be gnawed to the bare bones of my being.
Like popcorn seed, I am in a microwave of development
or self-imposed. But I'm betting and backing on me.
Who else but me can unentanglement my future?
