Escapist - Poem by Mitta Xinindlu

My name is Escapist.
I live in you - people who are below deities.
Whether you do know it,
Or have a fervent desire to know it.
I'm with you
I'm in you

I escape from my loneliness to dwell in art;
from my marriage problems to falling apart,
apart in the hands of meaningless affairs.
And stopping to take even a care.

I escape from my day's troubles to alcohol.
And to laying my body ahold.
To dagga and heroine and tik.
And sleeping pills and baseless ticks.

I escape from my past to fantasies.
from my family to tireless hours in workplaces.
from my life to escapism.
from my ethics to materialism.

My name is Escapist.
I'm like words from the fingers of a typist.
Some of you deny my existence
Though my being holds more pertinence.

I'm with you
I'm in you
