Fade Into Me Poem by Luce Darwin

Fade Into Me

I listen to the song you do
and think that possibly
it's playing in your brain
at the same time.
I listen to it
and I lie down and
feel as though you yourself
are the one comforting me
and sitting on the bed
feeling for me.
What could these lyrics mean
to you I wonder and I am left to
comfort myself with the lies
that maybe these lyrics
remind me of you.
But then again that could not
possibly be true,
and I put the song
on repeat
and I fall asleep.
You stand by my bedside
in reproach.
I dream that you are not.

This is not how you
meant it to be.
But this is how I always
knew it would be.
